TERRAZO FLOORS AND KITCHEN WALLS

After two more days of rain, the site is a muddy mess but on January 3 the morning dawned with a full rainbow over Ait Ourir and brilliant light at the garden home.

Our new crew is fast turning the shell of the house into a home with interior walls. In this photo, a kitchen is emerging.

FYI, here is how you mix concrete on the floor
of your future living room:

A load of what the locals call white dirt was hauled in to be used in the adobe mud mixture. The rough mix is screened twice to seperate the larger pieces from the timy grains that are suitable for the mix.

The last of the window grates has been installed,
and two of the three doors.

In the studio, the color of the too-bright terrazo that lines the walls has been muted and applied to the subfloor, and all that is left to do is apply the polisher to the surface.

We have been waiting for the indicator that the giant slaoui was ready to be harvested and the stem finally turned brown. It weighed in at a whopping 6260 grams-and this is after it stopped growing a couple of months ago and slowly started shrinking on the vine.
